The State College Food Bank received help Tuesday in the form of funding and volunteers

The food bank continues its theme of caring and sharing with other similar organizations throughout Centre County.

Food banks are valuable resources in many communities.

In State College Tuesday, there was a sizeable donation for the food bank from a regular contributor.

The food bank is able to use those contributions to share resources with other service organizations, who in many cases serve the same clientele.

The Centre region Giant Food Stores contributed just over $8,000 to the State College food bank- Giant's latest contribution from its “Bag Hunger” campaign.

Various employees from Giant also volunteered at the food bank Tuesday.

If you scan the shelves there, you'll see food goods from various grocery stores. The food bank aims to provide its clients with complete meals.

The State College Food Bank is able to share the surplus with other food banks in the county, along with other service agencies through its re-donation program.

Last year, the State College Food Bank served more than 700 households, along with another 1700 individuals.

Another valuable contribution to the food bank is the more than 120 community volunteers who work there year-round.
