Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — State police in Bedford County have released new details about the cause of Monday's fatal crash on Interstate 99 in East Saint Clair Township.
Troopers say the crash claimed the life of 38-year-old Kevin Kutzler Jr., of Cherry Tree, and also sent four others to the hospital, including Kutzler's 8-year-old passenger.
Investigators say the crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. near the 4.7 northbound mile marker, according to the crash report.
Authorities say Kutzler's vehicle had reportedly overturned on the highway and had become disabled in the right-hand lane.
Police say his vehicle was then struck by an SUV and Kutzler was reportedly ejected.
Troopers say the SUV then traveled off the left side of the roadway before re-entering the interstate and striking the guardrail.
Investigators say Kutzler's passenger, an 8-year-old boy, was flown to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh with suspected serious injuries.
Troopers say the driver and two passengers in the SUV, all of whom are from Virginia, were also injured in the crash and were all transported to UMPC Altoona.
The current conditions of those injured in the crash are unknown at this time and Kutzler's official cause of death has not yet been released.
