After weeks of auditions, Hollywood rounds, and live performances, American Idol‘s winner for Season 22 is here. But who was voted first among the three finalists and who were the runner-ups? Prior to the finale, fans were at a consensus as to who American Idol Season 22’s winner would be, and so were we.

Who’s the American Idol Season 22 winner

The American Idol Season 22 winner was Abi Carter, a 21-year-old from Indio, California. The runner-up was Will Moseley, a 23-year-old from Hazelhurst, Georgia, while the third place finalist was Jack Blocker, a 25-year-old from Dallas, Texas. All three contestants have never been in the bottom or saved by the judges.

Prior to the American Idol Season 22 finale on May 19, 2024, the consensus on Reddit was that Abi would win with Jack as the runner-up and Will in third place. “I think Abi will win. I am biased because I want her to win, but IMO, she has shown that she has range to an extent. She definitely gained a lot more fans after her performance of ‘Bring Me to Life,'” a Reddit user in a thread on May 17.

The thread also included a poll in which users voted for their predictions on what the finale results were. Abi in first place; Jack in second; and Will in third had the most votes followed by Jack in first; Abi in second; and Will in third. The third most votes were for Abi in first; Will in second; and Jack in third. “I think Abi, Jack, Will. I want Jack, Abi, Will, but honestly I was so happy that america got it right with the final three and think they all deserve it. It’s all I can ask for,” another user commented.

Many fans on predictions site GoldDerby also predicted that Abi would win. “Abi Carter is the best . She is a cut above the other two. She should win this hands down,” a user commented on a Goldderby article about the American Idol semifinals. Another user wrote, “Abi is the clear winner in my book. She shines every time she sings. Emmy got to where she left, because of being a granddaughter to a famous country artist. Abi all the way? She’s versatile and has an angelic voice and persona. I hope and pray fame doesn’t change that. ♥️” A predictions poll run by Goldderby also saw Abi with the most votes followed by Jack and then Will.

While Abi was the more popular choice to win American Idol Season 22, there were a lot of fans rooting for Jack as well, which could lead to his surprise win. “Jack Blocker should win he knows is style his genre who he is as an artist . He reminds me of Lyle Lovett . Abby has a great voice but I don’t think she has lasting power in her style or as who she is . Will is not consistent he’s had som bad weeks for myself,” a user commented on Goldderby.

As for why Abi was speculated to win, Parade, which also predicted Abi as the American Idol Season 22 winner, noted that she has the experience that sets her apart from the two other finalists. Abi, who is the only Platinum Ticket winner in the finale, is a singer-songwriter who plays multiple instruments and has performed both original songs and covers throughout Season 22.

Jack, who fans predict will be the runner-up, was initially rejected by judges Lionel Richie and Katy Perry at his audition, with only Luke wanting to give him the Golden Ticket to Hollywood and changing the othe judges’ minds, making him the dark horse of the season. Will, who fans predict will come in third place, could be also be a dark horse winner based on America’s love of country music on singing competition.
